RON approved States
As of August 2026, the following 43 states currently authorize true Remote Online Notarization (RON) with the general rule that the notary remains within their authorized jurisdiction while the signer may be in another state or, subject to additional conditions, another country:

The following states do not currently offer fully operational RON authority equivalent to Florida’s:
Alabama — permits remote notarization involving paper documents, not conventional electronic RON.
California — enacted future RON authorization, but California notaries cannot generally perform RON yet.
Connecticut — permits a paper-based form of remote notarization, not conventional electronic RON.
Georgia — does not currently authorize its notaries to perform permanent RON.
Massachusetts — enacted authorization, but full implementation remains pending.
Mississippi — does not authorize conventional RON.
South Carolina — does not currently authorize its notaries to perform conventional RON.

The signer may generally be anywhere, although the agency, title company, court, lender or other recipient can still refuse a particular document or require in-person notarization. The NNA specifically confirms this rule for Florida notaries. National Notary Association RON guidance� and Florida Statute §117.265�.
